The Twelfth Doctor

The Twelfth DoctorI watched the live announcement with much anticipation, though there had been a leak or two of who had been chosen. Many are arguing about Peter’s age, but I felt total contentment with the decision. I don’t think he’ll come across as grandfatherly like Hartnell. He makes me think more of Pertwee (#3) and McCoy’s (#7) doctors. Pertwee is actually my fave of the original Doctors–I think the writing during his era was awesome and that he had that debonair older gentleman flair.

I actually wasn’t happy with Matt Smith at first since he was the youngest by far, but I did grow to love him. Also haven’t really warmed to Jenna Coleman as the companion, but it’ll be interesting to see how she takes his regeneration. What I would really like is a more continuous season so that we can experience character development at a slower pace, while seeing more of the Doctor and meeting more enemies along the way. I feel like there have been too many Dalek episodes and not enough fresh thinking.

Quantum LeapThe first Doctor Who episode I ever saw during a marathon on SyFy–The Idiot’s Latern–blew me away. It was a different type of sci-fi than Star Trek and Battlestar Gallatica. I related to it more, loved the historical settings as well as the future ones (I went back to watch the new series from the beginning). I’ve always loved time travel–Voyagers! and Quantum Leap and H.G. Well’s The Time Machine, so Doctor Who gripped me right away.VoyagersAnd now I’m a die-hard Whovian–completely obsessed. A true Whovian can’t be focused on the current Who, even though you “never forget your first Doctor.” A Whovian needs to watch the oldest episodes, as many of them as still remain, and get to know each incarnation of the Doctor.

I will say that out of what I’ve read so far, I do like the new Doctor Who novels better than some of the really old ones. However, I really like Paul McGann from the 90s Doctor Who movie, and he’s put out a bunch of DW audios. I’m listening to my 2nd one now, Sword of Orion, and really enjoying it.

Now if you would like to lose yourself in my Doctor Who obsession, here are my Pinterest Boards to check out:
